Up until now, SQL has been responsible for his own bookings and management; and he’s been doing really well! Especially after his monster release in 2009 “Destorted Reality” held the No. 1 position for 6 weeks (!!!) in the Beatport charts, he’s been touring across the world with his Live set. As a matter of fact…he just returned from a two week Australian tour and will leave for another tour in a few days, in Brazil!
Check out this Gem podcast “Gem Featured” with an interview with SQL and an exclusive live-set from the newest gem-member.
Exciting times for Remy, as he’s recently launched his new label: Fone Audio! Together with his good friend and producer Patch Park, the new label is online since september. The first release, “Preface EP” consisted of two tracks; one of each of the label bosses. Keep an eye out for this new, fresh label. Check for more info www.foneaudio.com
Egbert Van Der Gugten is currently one of the most promising talents within the field of electronic dance music.
Jeroen Verheij alias Secret Cinema, whose attention was drawn to Egbert via myspace.com, invited him on the spur of the moment to his parties and his studio in the last years. The student learned the way to perfection and worked on the way for Egbert into the Dutch Techno scene.
After his debut on Lo-Fi Stereo, it was mainly his “Vlammen-EP” on Michel de Hey’s EC Records in February 2009, which went down a bomb on the dancefloors and belonged to the basic vinyl inventory of Sven Väth’s record case in this season. With “Vreugdevuur”, Egbert still tops this and provides Cocoon Recordings with a musical exclamation mark that sets standards in harmonic but consequently demanding Tech-House somewhere in between Dub, Progressive House and Detroit.
With his album release coming up in 2012, Egbert will take it even bigger!!
For the past 20 years, Jeroen Verheij aka Secret Cinema has consistently been regarded as one of Netherland’s, if not the world’s top techno producers and live acts.
During this time he has produced some of the biggest techno anthems including Timeless Altitude, Sonar System, Mary Go Wild and two of the popular tunes on Sven Vath’s Cocoon Records – Shake Your Tech Ass & Kurzweil.
He has headlined many of the biggest festivals around the globe including closing the Awakenings Festival (a spot that only Secret Cinema, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Dave Clarke have held since its inception).
Jeroen lives and breathes electronic music not to mention, he still holds as much passion and enthusiasm on stage as he did in the early 90′s.
After the lengthy success of his solo Secret Cinema project, Jeroen has focused his energy toward a new venture aptly named “Gem” which is a platform consisting of Gem Records (one of the fastest growing global techno labels) and the highly regarded Gem events which has built an absolute cult following over the past several years.
To put it simply, Secret Cinema is one of the brightest shining Gems of the global techno scene and will continue to shine for many years to come!
Remy Unger has been one of the driving forces behind the electronic music scene in the Netherlands. With bookings on all continents under his belt, Remy left his mark on the worldwide scene. Recent years have been treating him well with high profile gigs like Timewarp NL, A Day At The Park, closing sets at Awakenings and of course his wildly popular residency at the ‘Click’ club nights and festival. His latest venture the ´Fone Audio´ record label, in collaboration with Patch Park, is taking him back to his roots releasing a unique mix of pumping energetic techno and tech-house.
Remy has always been actively involved in all aspects of the record industry as a label boss, producer, remixer and compiler. His first successes as a producer came from collaborations with Sven van Hees on Wonka Records. Sven and Remy then went on to found the widely respected Global Cuts bringing forward classics such as ‘Piano Power’. His work with Roland Klinkenberg also resulted in some classic material like, ‘Ignite’, ‘Mexico Can Wait’, ‘Till Ya Drop’ and their remix of Eye Wall – Bad deal on his own labels Taste and 68 Recordings. Big solo tracks on these labels included ‘Backstabber’, ‘Mano’ and Serious Damage under his own name and many hits under his alias Wavecatcher. Many of these tracks were licensed by EMI who got artists like Nathan Fake, James Holden, Jark Prongo and Mike Monday on the remix.
In 2003 Remy released his album ‘Bang!’ which brought forth his hit records Dustsucker, Scrambled and of course the title track Bang! which all made it on to many compilations.
All eyes are on Remy now with big releases on Fone and Gem coming up!!
Ramon Tapia alias El Carlitto, son of a Chilenean musician who had to run from his home country as he stood up against the regime, and a Dutch woman who was brave enough to fall in love, is a funny character, a very ambitious one: No one would have guessed he, the young jeweler working behind the counter of an Antwerp record shop, would one day release records on labels as renowned as Great Stuff, Craft Music,Turbo Rec, Abe Duque Rec, Corachi!, Pocket, Yellow Tail and Equator, just to name a few. But he does! And he does not stop there! With remixes for Band Özgür Can under his belt, things are looking more than good for the energetic player.
With a happy past in gabba and Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones roots, Ramon has a firm understanding of diversity and a very broad taste in music, readily amplified by his open mind and soul. His Latin background and his Dutch upbringing perfectly explain his cultural curiosity and his deep rooted sense for groove and rhythm. Shimmering through in his intrinsic productions is his love for structural buildups and breakdowns and harmonies which underlay the driving beats.
Mission: “To make people move by taking them on a trip in my musical head without even going into my head,” laughs Ramon, who started getting into making music to “have more feeling for the guy I knew from the shop then I learned step by step to create my own sound. After a while I got the impression that the people I worked with never did the things that I had flying around in my head, so I started to do my own stuff. It gives me a huge satisfaction when I see people smile when they hear my music.”
The most skilled artists always have the ability to sense the anticipation and feelings of their audience. They go along and ride the musical palette like a surfer rides the waves of the ocean. It is precisely this skill that Roger Martinez has been praised with numerous times.
Especially in his own productions he tries to go beyond genres and formats. He approaches (dance) music from an emotional perspective and emotions can be hard to label. He explains: ,,Music must contain mystery, harmony and melody. These elements are the key to human emotions and feelings.” This vision lies at the basis of Roger’s initial and quick rise to the forefront of the dance scene. His first ever released record “The House” was immediately charted by Paul van Dijk, number 1 DJ at the time according to DJ Mag.
His music has been supported through the years by the likes of Fedde le Grand, Tiësto, Marco V, Paul van Dijk, Hernan Cattaneo, Stephan Bodzin, Laurent Garnier, Secret Cinema, Guy J and many more.
2011 saw the emergence of “RogerMartinezLIVE”, a LIVEset consisting of 100% Roger Martinez tracks. After releasing several tracks and a full EP on renowned techno label “GEM Records”, Roger Martinez was asked to join the GEM Bookings. As his recent tracks are leaning towards a Techno sound – although Martinez always keeps his musical crosshairs aimed at the full musical spectrum – he is gaining support and respect from an even wider scope of DJ’s and producers.
Evidence of his broad interest in sound is his Ambient project called Horizontal Excursions. Under this guise Martinez explores vast worlds of sonic emotions. Going full circle in the audio realm, he also occasionally designs sound installations and takes part in interdisciplinary art projects.
,,Music can affect people on a deeper, universal, emotional level and thus can unite people…”
Stephan Bodzin on Horrevorts’ latest EP ‘Bloody Hands’ (Gem Records): “The original could be one of the best techno tracks I heard lately. Inspiring! Respect. FULL FULL support. 6/5.” Some of the world’s greatest DJ’s play his tracks, some of the world’s greatest producers request his services as a remixer and for years his music has featured on world renowned labels. None the less, Peter Horrevorts has stayed in the background whilst studying Modern Music Production at the Rock Academy, evolving and developing into the artist he is today.
After setting his mark with a full abum on Kanzleramt in 2007, followed by appearances on labels such as Global Underground, Ministry of Sound, Rena Underground Resistance, Horrevorts’ name is starting to echo around the globe.
When you have interests ranging from entomology, cosmology and marine biology, to the social impact of the rave generation, you tend to make unusual art. Sian stands out as a little more bohemian than the average electronic talent.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, raised in southern Spain, he chose early to drop out of normal society and engage in the extraordinary. Adhering more to the avant-garde side of the club culture, his tracks show an otherworldly, slow and hypnotic slant on techno. Quickly developing an oeuvre of work that has appeared on Bedrock, Sci&Tec, Soma Poker Flat, plus his own white hot new Octopus label. His music regularly hits Beatport top ten positions and gathers glowing reviews and DJ support alike. From mags and blogs to international radio shows, his reputation for delivering huge slabs of peak time techno is snowballing. Reworked and remixed by talent like Steve Bug, Carlo Lio, Pan-Pot, Secret Cinema, Ramon Tapia, Alan Fitzpatrick, Efdemin, Minilogue etc along the way, he has also personally dropped super big mixes for the likes of Guy J and Gui Boratto.
Whether conducting everlasting sweat soaked DJ sessions or creating timeless dance music, Sian is a truly diverse and original talented, at once chic and debonair, always intensely inventive.
At just 22-years-old, Pim Van Horssen has seen more success come his way than many will in a lifetime, with a list of releases as long as your arm as well as gigs in all corners of the globe, from the massive Universo Paralello in Brazil, the clubs in New Dehli and everything in between.
And while success is nothing new to Pim, 2009 is the year his talent came to the fore, with his smash hit Distorted Reality finding its way onto the playlists of the who’s who of the minimal world, including Richie Hawtin, Marco carola and eventually it held the No.1 position for 6 weeks on the Beatport charts.
Blending cutting edge minimal, techno and house with fat production, hypnotic grooves and unique view to the future of dance music, the sounds from the SQL studios are now in demand by imprints from throughout the globe, including Form, MBF, Trapez, gem, Microtonal and more.
With international tours on the cards, a stunning live show and heaps more freshness on the way, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this young star of dance music has a very bright future indeed.
Stay tuned!
